History
The circle in which the web is framed represents the circle of life. The web, which is in most tribes is inspired by a spiders web, which is there to catch the bad dreams and let the good ones through. The original dream catchers were made from tree branches to form hoops. The birds gave us their feathers so the dream catcher could fly true in the wind at night to help guide the good dreams through. The ribbon was traditionally leather to hold the feathers and beads were mainly shells to represent the sea.
These are the key elements that make up a traditional dream catcher. Each representing a different thing to different tribes and to me they represent the four main elements. In my time learning shamanic ways, I learnt the representation of the 4 main gods. Tengri god of the East, Ulgen god of the South, Umai god of West and Erlik god the North. It is unclear which of the native tribes made the first dream catcher and although I have put my own twist on them over the years, my original teachings are important too and passing on my knowledge to others..
